Apple RSS reader for iPhone already live

Planning on developing an RSS reader for the iPhone? Well, it looks like Apple might have got there before you, although that’s no great surprise considering they’ve had a bit more access to the handset than anyone else. An Engadget reader spotted that reader.mac.com takes you to a launch page for what looks like - from the iPhone screenshot - an RSS interface.

Look for “Works With iPhone” Logo to Find Compatible iPhone Accessories

A few months ago, we were wondering if Apple would create a "Made for iPhone" logo just like the "Made for iPod" logo. We were almost right! To know if a "Made for iPod" accessory works with iPhone, you have to look for the "Works With iPhone" logo.

Apple explains that even though iPhone has the same 30-pin dock connector as the iPod, iPhone may cause audio interference with some iPod accessories like speaker systems. Products that are engineered and certified to be compatible with the iPhone will carry the "Works with iPhone" logo on their packaging.

The logo above is not the real logo but something we've made…

Backbase announces AJAX SDK for Apple iPhone

Backbase has recently announced that their Enterprise AJAX software suite will be supporting the coveted Apple iPhone. The release of the Backbase SDK will allow developers to bring Rich Internet Applications to the iPhone.

Backbase VP of research and development Mark Schiefelbein had this to say about their decision to support the iPhone. “As the leader in the AJAX space, we want to make sure that our technology supports new platforms. With Apple selecting AJAX as the only SDK for its iPhone, the decision to support the new platform was an easy one for us.”

Apple iPhone: New Details, Good and Bad

• Confirmed in-line viewer for PDFs, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel docs in email. Microsoft complained about lack of support before. This is a huge deal, even if it is read-only.
• Turning off the phone requires you to slide your finger across the top (like unlocking it) to confirm.
• You can rewind voicemail like a sound file.
• You can finger-scroll through contacts using the alphabet on the right.
• The special iPhone headphones have volume and call control.
• IMAP/POP support confirmed
• Typing with two thumbs actually looks manageable
• Limited amount of ringtones can be selected from the settings menu. Doesn't look like songs can be used.
• Confirmed turn by turn directions and up-to-date traffic info for Google maps

Apple adds Excel, Word support to iPhone

Apple today revealed that its iPhone will support Microsoft Excel and Word documents, putting to rest one of the major criticisms voiced by potential business adopters of the mobile handset. The company's guided tour of iPhone reveals clearly that the device does in fact support viewing Microsoft Word and Excel documents received in email messages, prompting potential business customers to rethink any decisions to hold off on purchasing the device as a result of lacking functionality in the corporate realm. Rumors are also circulating that Apple is planning to integrate the iPhone with current corporate email installations, which would make the cellular phone an even more tantalizing option for widespread enterprise adoption.

AT&T: iPhones will sell-out in 24-48hrs

AT&T is expecting its retail stores to sell out of iPhones in 24-48 hours, but says it will take mail orders for delivery within 3-5 days of the launch date, according to a new report. AT&T also said it would limit iPhone sales to customers to prevent hoarding, but did not provide any other specific details. The USA Today reports that all 1,800 AT&T outlets will be carrying the device, noting that the world's largest carrier has hired an additional 2,000 employees for the launch at its retail stores -- most of which are expected to close for 90 minutes prior to the official launch time of 6 pm. The company, however, expects to extend retail store hours at most locations until 10 p.m. to accommodate the expected influx of customers.
